How to Redeem Fortnite V-Bucks and Gift Cards: Code and Balance Fixes
Choose the right redemption page for a V-Bucks card or Fortnite gift card, check your linked account and fix inactive cards, console codes and missing balances.

Quick answer
First read the card type. A V-Bucks card uses Fortnite’s V-Bucks redemption page; a Fortnite gift card adds Epic account balance through Epic’s gift-card redemption flow. Check the signed-in account before confirming. A PlayStation or Xbox V-Bucks card redemption can require a second code on the console platform.

A V-Bucks card and a Fortnite gift card use different flows.
Verify the account and platform before the final confirmation.
Keep the receipt and code private while troubleshooting.
| Purchase | Where to begin | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| V-Bucks card | fortnite.com/vbuckscard | A V-Bucks redemption linked to an Epic account and selected platform |
| Fortnite gift card | The card’s official QR code or epicgames.com/redeem | Epic account balance after confirmation |
| PlayStation or Xbox secondary code | The selected console platform’s redemption flow | A further step after the original V-Bucks card redemption |
| V-Bucks bought directly in a store | Transaction history and the purchasing platform | A purchase to investigate, rather than another physical card to redeem |
1. Identify the card before entering its code
Check the wording on the front, the instructions on the back and your receipt. Epic distinguishes V-Bucks cards from newer Fortnite gift cards. The latter add Epic account balance; they should not be treated as the old fixed V-Bucks card flow. Seeing Fortnite artwork on both products does not make their redemption instructions interchangeable.
Use fortnite.com/vbuckscard for a V-Bucks card, or follow the official gift-card link in the sources below for a Fortnite gift card. Type the address carefully or use the card’s official instructions. A code error on the wrong page is not proof that a legitimate card has already been used. Do not repeatedly enter the code on unrelated websites.
2. Confirm the Epic account and linked console
Before redeeming, compare the signed-in Epic account with the one used in your Fortnite game. If you normally play on a console, signing in through that console provider can help you reach the associated account. Review the displayed details before continuing. A familiar email address alone is not enough if your household uses several Epic or console accounts.
For a V-Bucks card, check the available platform selection. If the intended platform is missing, investigate account linking before confirming. Do not unlink accounts as a speculative fix. If you already redeemed to the wrong account, retain the receipt and contact Epic with the relevant account details through its private support flow. Do not assume you can redeem the same code again elsewhere.
Two cards, two redemption routes
V-Bucks card
fortnite.com/vbuckscard → selected platform → V-Bucks
Fortnite gift card
epicgames.com/redeem → Epic account balance
3. Redeem a V-Bucks card and finish every step
Open the official V-Bucks page, sign in and enter the card’s PIN as instructed. Select the intended linked platform, then review the account and redemption summary before confirming. For supported PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile flows, follow the completion message and check Fortnite on the chosen platform. A successful website step should be followed by an in-game check.
PlayStation and Xbox can add another stage: Epic provides a secondary code that must be redeemed with the selected platform. Keep that confirmation open until you know whether an additional step is required. Stopping after the original card is accepted can leave the redemption unfinished even though the first website reports success.
4. Redeem a Fortnite gift card as account balance
Use the official QR code on the card or Epic’s gift-card redemption page. If the card has no visible code, check the retailer’s receipt. Sign in, review the account information and complete any account-linking prompt. Review the redemption details and the account-balance terms before the final confirmation.
Check the resulting Epic account balance separately from the V-Bucks counter in Fortnite. These are different balances, so adding account credit is not the same action as buying a V-Bucks pack. Follow the available checkout options for what you intend to buy, and inspect the total and payment method before committing to a separate purchase. This guide does not promise that every product or platform accepts the same balance.
5. Find and troubleshoot a console secondary code
If you closed the confirmation, Epic says the secondary code can be found in the email sent after redemption or in the V-Bucks Card Redemption area of account transactions. Use the code for the platform you selected. Epic identifies PlayStation secondary codes as 12 characters and Xbox secondary codes as 25 characters; the original card PIN is not a substitute for that second code.
Confirm that the platform account receiving the second code is the account linked during redemption. When several accounts are signed in on a shared browser, inspect the active identity before continuing. If the platform still rejects the correct secondary code after those checks, use PlayStation or Xbox support as applicable and retain the original redemption record.
6. Separate invalid, inactive and missing-balance problems
An invalid-code message calls for checking the card type, redemption page and typed characters. An inactive card is a different issue: Epic directs players back to the retailer because the retailer must activate it. Keep the purchase receipt. If a correctly entered card remains invalid, use the retailer and Epic guidance for that exact error instead of buying a replacement immediately.
For missing V-Bucks, open Fortnite on the platform where the purchase or redemption occurred, check the account and review transaction history. Nintendo Switch has wallet restrictions, so a balance not appearing there does not by itself prove the purchase failed. Restart the game after checking the receipt. If the issue remains, record the platform, order reference, time and expected amount for the relevant store or Epic support; do not post the full card code publicly.
Your next steps
- Read the card and receipt to identify the product.
- Open the matching official redemption page.
- Verify the signed-in Epic account and intended platform.
- Review the details, redeem and complete any console secondary-code step.
- Check the correct account balance or in-game wallet and keep the receipt.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I redeem a Fortnite V-Bucks card?
Start at fortnite.com/vbuckscard. Confirm that you have a V-Bucks card, rather than a Fortnite gift card that adds Epic account balance.
Why did I receive another code for PlayStation or Xbox?
That secondary code completes the platform-specific stage. Redeem it on the selected console platform with the account linked to the original transaction.
Can Epic activate an inactive card?
Epic’s guidance directs you to the retailer. Bring the receipt and explain that the card was sold without activation.
Why does my gift card not immediately show as V-Bucks?
A Fortnite gift card adds Epic account balance. Check that balance and the separate purchase flow; it is not automatically the same as a V-Bucks card redemption.
Why are my V-Bucks missing on Nintendo Switch?
Check the purchasing platform and account first. Wallet restrictions mean a balance from another platform may not appear on Switch. Review Epic’s current missing-balance guidance before assuming it is lost.
Should I enter my code into a free V-Bucks generator?
No. Use the official redemption flow for the card you bought. Keep the PIN and account credentials private.
