How to Link Fortnite Accounts: Epic, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch

Identify the Epic account holding your Fortnite progress, link the correct console account and understand missing skins, account merging and linking restrictions.

Quick answer

Fortnite progress belongs to an Epic account. To use that progress on another supported platform, connect the platform account to the same Epic account. First identify which account already holds the items you want to keep. Linking does not merge two Epic accounts or combine their inventories, and unlinking the wrong account can interrupt access to your progress.

1. Record where your progress currently lives

Open Fortnite on the device that shows the correct Locker and progress. Note the Epic identity and the console profile used to enter the game. Then sign in to Epic through that platform’s login option and inspect the account you reach. The console email and Epic email do not have to be identical.

This first check matters more than the Connect button. If one platform shows your old cosmetics and another shows a fresh account, you already have an identity question to resolve. Make a private record of which account shows which progress before changing any connection.

2. Complete an existing console-created account

A console can be associated with an Epic account whose registration details were never completed. If signing in through the console provider asks you to finish setup, follow the process for that existing account. Do not assume a missing familiar email means the game never had an Epic account.

Epic advises against casually unlinking an automatically created account, because the console can lose access to its game data. Complete the account information, verify access and set up two-factor authentication before managing additional connections.

Conceptual account map. Linking provides access to the selected Epic account; it does not combine separate inventories.

3. Connect the intended platform

Once you are sure which Epic account contains the progress to retain, open its Linked accounts settings. Choose the platform under the linking options, sign in to the intended platform account and review the identity before confirming. In a shared browser, check that a saved provider session has not selected someone else’s profile.

Epic supports only one account of each platform type linked to an Epic account at a time. A platform account cannot simultaneously belong to several Epic accounts. If the slot is occupied or an already-linked warning appears, stop and identify that existing connection; do not treat the warning as a request to create more accounts.

4. Understand what linking cannot combine

Epic does not offer account merging. Its support guidance also rules out transferring V-Bucks, store purchases, cosmetics and friends lists between separate Epic accounts. Connecting a console to the account you choose does not import everything that belonged to a different Epic account.

For example, an Xbox profile showing one set of items and a Switch profile showing another may be associated with separate Epic accounts. Decide which progress you intend to use across devices, then follow Epic’s platform-specific instructions. Do not pay a third party promising to merge those inventories.

5. Handle missing skins and linking restrictions

If Fortnite shows level 1 or a missing Locker after an account change, compare the identity with your original record. Epic identifies wrong-account sign-in and unlinking as possible causes. That symptom does not prove the original progress was deleted. Use Epic’s missing-progress instructions for your exact situation before further changes.

Changing to a different account of a platform can involve a linking restriction. Epic says removal of that restriction is available only once every 365 days and cannot be bypassed. Its instructions also flag active Fortnite Crew subscriptions on an account being removed. Review the official process and its consequences rather than following an old unlink-and-relink shortcut.

6. Verify progress separately from wallet balance

After completing the intended link, open Fortnite on the newly connected platform and check the Epic identity, Locker and relevant progress. If the wrong account still appears, record the exact platform and account shown for support. Do not start another round of disconnections without understanding the first result.

A wallet difference is a separate check. Platform rules can affect where purchased V-Bucks appear, so use the V-Bucks balance guide rather than concluding that all progress failed to sync. To play with another person’s account, use friend requests and crossplay; you do not need to link their account to yours.

Your next steps

  1. Identify the Epic account showing the progress you want to keep.
  2. Sign in through the correct existing account or console provider.
  3. Complete any missing account details.
  4. Review Linked accounts and the intended platform identity.
  5. Follow the applicable official linking flow and read its warnings.
  6. Open Fortnite on the new platform and verify identity and progress.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge two Fortnite accounts?

No. Epic’s current support guidance says accounts cannot be merged, and separate inventories cannot be transferred between Epic accounts.

Can one Epic account use PlayStation and Xbox?

It can have one account of each supported platform type linked at a time. Confirm you are linking your intended accounts.

Why did my Fortnite skins disappear after linking?

Check whether you are now signed into a different Epic account or changed a console link. Use your original account record and Epic’s missing-progress instructions.

Are console and Epic email addresses always the same?

No. Signing in through the known console provider can help identify the Epic account actually associated with it.

Should I link my friend’s account to play together?

No. Use Epic friend requests and party invitations. Account linking is for your own progress across platforms.
