Unreal MCP is now available in Unreal Editor for Fortnite as a beta toolset. Epic says it lets compatible agentic coding tools work inside a creator’s local UEFN project to write and compile Verse, configure devices, create Scene Graph entities and run play sessions—while the resulting work remains editable in the project.

What Unreal MCP changes in UEFN

Epic describes Unreal MCP as an MCP server embedded in UEFN. The aim is to let compatible coding tools work with a creator on their own local project instead of treating the editor as an isolated visual workspace.

The meaningful distinction is editability. Epic says the output is still made of normal project assets: Verse files can be opened, devices can be tuned in the Details panel, and Scene Graph entities can be selected in the Outliner. That gives creators a way to review and continue editing the result in familiar UEFN tools.

The workflows Epic lists

Epic specifically calls out writing and compiling Verse, placing and configuring devices, creating Scene Graph entities, building UI with UMG, and starting play sessions. These tasks map to the repetitive parts of iteration: turn a mechanic into a first implementation, inspect the project, then test and revise.

The toolset is not a replacement for testing or design judgment. Epic labels it beta, so creators should treat it as a way to reduce routine friction and verify every change in a play session before publishing an island.

How to start

Epic says there is no separate plugin installation: the UEFN MCP toolset is enabled under beta access in project settings, then the creator generates the configuration for their compatible tool. Epic’s own documentation is the source of truth for the current setup steps.
