Fortnite AS-18048 Login Error: Fix

What Fortnite AS-18048 means, how to separate an expired Epic session from an account-service incident, and the safe sign-in steps for PC and console.

Direct answer

AS-18048 usually means Epic cannot validate the current account session. Check live account-service status first. If services are normal, close Fortnite completely, restart the launcher or console session, then sign out and back in once. Avoid unlinking accounts, resetting your password or repeatedly retrying while an incident is active.

What AS-18048 actually tells you

The code is about the session Fortnite is using to talk to Epic Account Services. It does not prove that your account is banned, lost or incorrectly linked. A global sign-in incident, a stale launcher session and a temporary connection interruption can all produce the same symptom.

Start by checking Fortnite’s live status. If account services or login are degraded, wait for recovery. Changing credentials while Epic is already reporting an incident can create more sign-in prompts without restoring access.

PC, PlayStation and Xbox checks

On PC, exit Fortnite and Epic Games Launcher completely, then reopen the launcher. If the launcher displays your account normally but Fortnite shows AS-18048, sign out and back in once. Make sure the device date and time are set automatically; incorrect system time can invalidate secure session checks.

On PlayStation or Xbox, close Fortnite instead of leaving it suspended. Confirm the console is signed into its network service and that Fortnite has the current update. Do not remove your Epic link from a console account as a first fix; it is unrelated to a temporary session refresh.

When a local network test is useful

If live services are normal and the error returns after one clean sign-in, test whether another online service works. Restart the router only when other services also show a connection issue. For one test, disconnect a VPN or proxy, then retry without repeatedly switching network settings.

If it continues, use the exact code on the error-code library and contact Epic support with the time, platform and steps already taken. That is more useful than sending a general ‘cannot log in’ report.

Fix it step by step

  1. 1

Check live Fortnite account and login service status.

  2. 2

Close Fortnite completely and restart Epic Games Launcher or your console session.

  3. 3

Confirm your device’s date and time are set automatically.

  4. 4

When services are normal, sign out and back in once only.

  5. 5

Confirm Fortnite is fully updated and retry without VPN or proxy for one test.

  6. 6

If AS-18048 remains, record the platform and time, then use Epic Player Support.

Frequently asked questions

Is AS-18048 a ban?

No. It is a session-validation error and does not by itself indicate an enforcement action.

Should I reset my Epic password?

Not as the first step. Resetting a password does not resolve a live service incident or a stale console session.

Why does AS-18048 return after I restart?

It can return while account services are affected, when the session has not refreshed, or when there is a network interruption. Check status before making account changes.
